Past Projects

Outdoor Swing Set

The EARC and their wonderful leader at the time Martha were thrilled to hear this was a project we were keen to provide funds for, she immediately organised a local welder and materials to get started. Since this time an engineering volunteer has built a see saw for the children to play on. Play equipment will bring so much joy to the many children with disabilities that visit the EARC.

The swing set has since been adapted to more supportive tyre seats so that the physically disabled children also enjoy their turn.

Beds and Blankets for Matungu Primary

Local craftmanship was sourced to build 4 beds, mattresses and sheets for the kids at Matungu Special School. Matungu Special School caters for children with a low IQ and previously 10 of the boarders were sleeping on mattresses on the floor.

40 blankets we also purchased for the orphaned kids at Matungu and Lunganyiro Primary Schools. It was beautiful to see the smiles on the children’s faces as they received a new blanket.

Toilet for Cynthia

Cynthia is a vibrant young girl, at the time of this project she was 8 years old. Her grandmother cares for her and as she gets bigger, it is more challenging to transfer her to the squat toilet in the village. A toilet has been constructed just for Cynthia to use close to the house.

Fatuma's University Fees

When we first met Fatuma in 2009, she was volunteering at the EARC . We remember that she was always amazing with the children, greeting them at the door and playing with them each day. When Fatuma expressed that she wanted to study Special Education teaching at University, we were keen to help raise funds to contribute to her school fees.

Fatuma taught for some time at Rise and Shine school that caters for children with disabilities, including Cynthia. In 2016 Fatuma opened her own private primary school "Jesfa Joy Academy."
